Making Self-Care Simple

Sometimes wellbeing can seem over-complicated and a luxury that we just don’t have time to fit into our busy lives. A regular 60 minute yoga class or a long walk in the countryside might seem like a good idea, but I know that in reality it can be a struggle to fit activities like this into our busy schedules. But I’ll let you into a secret: you don’t need to carve out hours and hours of time to get the benefits of self care! And it doesn’t need to be complicated either. Even just 10 minutes of ‘me time’ can make a huge difference to how we think and feel.

Sometimes setting big self-care targets can have the opposite impact on your wellbeing. Let me explain. You might set yourself the target of reading your latest personal development book for at least 1 hour everyday. But one day things might crop up with family members or work that means you simply don’t have time to read for 1 hour. So what happens? You feel like you’ve failed because you didn’t reach your goal. Even though you might have managed to read for 15 minutes (which is great!), you still feel like a failure because you didn’t do what you set out to do.

So whilst the goal was to benefit your wellbeing by carving out some time for your self-care and personal development, you’re left feeling disheartened and disappointed in yourself. This has the opposite effect on our wellbeing than we wanted.

Does this sound familiar?

Whether it’s reading, practicing yoga, or something else, many of us can relate to the feeling of not doing enough for ourselves. But is it really that you’re not doing enough, or is your goal too big?

Like I said, even just a few minutes of mindful ‘me time’ can be hugely beneficial. Being realistic with the time that you have available to you and starting small is always a good way to begin. Some examples might be writing a morning gratitude list, doing a few rounds of a breathing technique, or working through some simple stretches.

10 minutes is achievable for most of us, and is less likely to be skipped or missed. You’ll be surprised how much you can get done in this amount of time and how good you feel after.

To help make self-care both accessible and achievable, I am running a FREE 10 Minutes for 10 Days challenge on my YouTube Channel. The videos are 10 minutes long and include a combination of mindful movement, breathing techniques and meditation.

I want to show you that self-care doesn’t have to be complicated or take up loads of time in your schedule. It’s about quality, not quantity. So I invite you to join the 10 Minutes for 10 Days Challenge to start introducing small amounts of self-care into your day. Take the pledge by subscribing to my YouTube channel and turning on notifications.

It will run from 1st - 10th November. Can’t wait to have you as part of the journey!
